Hominin paleoenvironment in East Asia: The Middle Paleolithic Xuchang-Lingjing (China) mammalian evidence

چکیده
The Chinese open-air site Xuchang-Lingjing (Henan) is located near the border between Palearctic and Oriental biozone in a lowland depression at southern edge of North China Plain. yielded Middle Palaeolithic assemblage that includes two fragmented, incomplete human (possibly Denisovan) skulls (Xuchang 1 Xuchang 2), more than 15,000 artefacts 40,000 mammalian remains representing least 20 taxa. composition faunal biased by hominin hunting activities; it is, however, diverse “natural” enough to be used as proxy reconstruct paleoenvironmental condition during occupation site. indicates grassland-dominated palaeoecological environment, with mosaic scattered forest mixed vegetation well along rivers and/or lakes occurrence swampy areas bushes. OSL-dates assumed correlation last interglacial (MIS 5) palaeosol strongly suggest we are dealing an fauna. However, fact Lingjing represents southernmost fauna questions assumption finds date from period. A late Pleistocene 6) or Late glacial stadial phase 4) seems likely.

متن کاملRecovery of Mammalian DNA from Middle Paleolithic Stone Tools
One of the primary goals of archaeology is to understand past human behaviour. Although stone tools comprise the vast majority of cultural artefacts for most of the archaeological record, their uses in prehistory are poorly understood. The application of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify DNA molecules can help establish a physical link to ancient tool use in processing biological m...
متن کاملDiscovery of circa 115,000-year-old bone retouchers at Lingjing, Henan, China
Most Chinese lithic industries dated between 300,000 and 40,000 are characterized by the absence of Levallois debitage, the persistence of core-and-flake knapping, the rarity of prepared cores, their reduction with direct hard hammer percussion, and the rarity of retouched flakes. Here we report the discovery of seven bone soft hammers at the early hominin Lingjing site (Xuchang County, Henan) ...
